What an affiliate link is
Some links to shops, such as Amazon, are affiliate links. If you click one and buy something, the shop pays this site a small commission. You pay the same price either way.
Where they appear
- Only on kit guides: the pages that help you choose a device, listed under Kit guides. Each kit guide has a notice at the top, and every affiliate link is labelled "(affiliate link)" beside it.
- Rarely on guides, and only to a service. The guides that explain how to do something carry no adverts. A few include one labelled affiliate link to a service the guide discusses: at present, the repeat prescriptions guide links to Pharmacy2U's NHS prescription service. Those guides show the same notice at the top, and the other options are listed alongside on equal terms. The site's build system will not publish an affiliate link on a guide that doesn't show the notice.
How products are chosen
Products are chosen first and links added second. Each kit guide states the standard a product must meet, such as the British and Irish Hypertension Society's validated list for blood pressure monitors. If a product meets the standard but has no affiliate link, it can still be listed.
